CCA & Ministry of Labour Join Forces to Empower Cambodian Workforce in the Construction Sector

In a landmark move aimed at fostering skill development and enhancing employment opportunities, the Cambodian Constructors Association (CCA) and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training inked a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in internships and technical training. The signing ceremony, held on 11 November 2023 at the Koh Pich Exhibition and Convention Centre, marked a pivotal collaboration to bolster the human capital of Cambodia’s construction sector.

The primary objective of this MoU is to establish a collaborative framework facilitating skills enhancement, exchange, and increased productivity within the construction industry. By providing practical internships and technical training, the initiative seeks to empower young individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they gain valuable skills for stable and decent employment. Furthermore, it aims to uplift workers from the informal economy by imparting modern and relevant skills, thus maintaining the competitiveness of various enterprises and contributing to national progress.

In the spirit of this partnership, the Ministry of Labour will work in tandem with educational and vocational training institutions to compile a list of students or interns enrolled in relevant majors. This list will then be shared with the CCA, enabling member companies to engage and accept interns based on their specific needs. The CCA, acting as a facilitator, will encourage its members to participate in training courses aligned with the ministry’s program.

HE Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, presided over the signing ceremony, attended by approximately 100 representatives from public and private institutions, including the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), Association Cambodian Constructors Association (CCA), Cambodian Housing Developers Association (HDAC), and other professional associations, totalling 18 institutions.

This collaborative effort signifies a crucial step towards nurturing a skilled and competent workforce in the construction sector, promoting sustainable development and progress for Cambodia’s future.
