China Still Top Financing Source for Cambodia’s Infrastructure Development, US$3bn Provided

China remains the top financing source for Cambodia’s infrastructure development with a total of almost US$3billion thus far provided, while Cambodia’s Transport Minister HE Sun Chanthol intends to continue accepting more loans or assistance from China as well as other countries.

Speaking at the MPWT LIVE SHOW on 30 August, Minister Sun Chanthol said that Japan and South Korea are the second and third countries providing loans for infrastructure development.

Additionally, Cambodia has also received infrastructure loans from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

HE Sun Chanthol continued that Cambodia’s neighbouring countries such as Vietnam and Thailand also provide loans.

“Cambodia does not discriminate on any sources of funding. We do not accept only from China. If any friend wants to help, we will accept them all,” said HE Chanthol.

“However, China is the top because their procedure of proving loans is faster and easier compared to other financing sources,” he said.
