China to Set Up More Than 50 Agricultural Factories in Kampong Speu

A groundbreaking economic partnership is on the horizon for Cambodia’s Kampong Speu province, as Chinese investors hailing from Henan province pledge to establish more than 50 agricultural enterprises. This ambitious initiative is set to focus on cattle and pig farming, as well as beef and pork processing, and was announced on the official Facebook page of HE Vy Samnang, Governor of Kampong Speu Province on 4 September 2023.

Wang Guangguo, Executive Director of the Henan Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs, announced this transformative move during a visit to Guangdong and Guangzhou alongside HE Wei Samnang, the People’s Republic of China’s representative. The visit aimed to showcase Kampong Speu’s economic potential, enticing investors to stimulate job creation by constructing additional factories within the province.

Henan province, China’s fifth-largest economy, and one of its agricultural powerhouses, brings substantial expertise and investment clout to Cambodia’s doorstep. This venture signals not only a promising economic future for Kampong Speu but also represents a strengthening of bilateral relations between China and Cambodia.

Moreover, this wave of investment is not limited to Henan alone. By the close of 2023 or early 2024, Chinese investors from Guangdong and Guangzhou are poised to establish 25 additional factories in Kampong Speu province, thereby offering employment opportunities for approximately 23,000 local workers.
