Chinese Investors Mull Establishing Public bus service in Sihanoukville

Chinese investors have requested approval from the government to invest in establishing a public bus network and service in Sihanoukville.

This request was made during a meeting between Sihanoukville Governor HE Kouch Chamroeun and Chinese investors on Wednesday 22 September.

According to the Chinese investors, for the first phase, there will be 30 buses, which will run on some major roads in downtown Sihanoukville.

They added that Sihanoukville is a high potential province that could be become a new commercial hub in the future, thus public transport such as buses is required.

Sihanoukville Governor HE Kouch Chamroeun expressed his support but requested the Chinese investors to study the economic value in detail before signing an investment agreement.

“We definitely want public transport as it will help mitigate traffic congestion and pollution. However, investors should carefully study regarding the economic resources, road map, parking lots, and other supporting infrastructure,” said HE Chamroeun.

“The firms also have to find experts to study the project before submitting the final report to us, to ensure the investment can be done effectively and successfully,” he added.
