City Hall Asks France to Help Build Wastewater Treatment Plant in North-western Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh Municipality has asked France to help build another wastewater treatment plant in the northwest of Phnom Penh, as there are no wastewater stations in the area yet.

This proposal was made in a meeting on 18 May 2022 between Phnom Penh Governor HE Khoung Sreng and HE Mr.Jacques Pellet, French Ambassador to Cambodia.

HE Khoung Sreng said that JICA of Japan has helped to build several wastewater treatment plants in Phnom Penh. However, the northwest of Phnom Penh, there are no sewage stations yet. Therefore, His Excellency asked France to help with this wastewater station for the next Cambodian generation, whether in the form of a loan or a grant.

HE Mr Jacques Pellet also expressed his deep appreciation for the development of Phnom Penh City and requested the Phnom Penh City Hall to preserve the old heritage.

In addition, His Excellency also mentioned the project to study the construction of high-speed trains in Phnom Penh.

In connection with the wastewater treatment in Phnom Penh, the draft law on wastewater systems prepared by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was officially handed over to Cambodia on 16 May 2022. This law will help to further improve the project to strengthen the capacity to manage wastewater and sewer systems to the administration of Phnom Penh and the Ministry of Public Works. (Read more)
