Construction of Japan-funded Teacher Education College (TEC) Begins

The Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sport and the Japan Ambassador to Cambodia witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony of Teacher Education College (TEC) located in Phnom Penh on 07 May.

Funded by the government of Japan, the TEC will see construction of an academic block, administration block, science and art lab, library, assembly hall, and provision of modern lab equipment.

Aiming to help contribute to improving the quality of Cambodia’s general education in the future, the project is expected to be complete by October 2020.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia said that the project does not only include construction of the TEC, but Japan will send technical trainers to help train teachers in Cambodia as well as send Cambodian teachers to train in Japan.

“Japan begins construction of infrastructure and has helped build many schools in Cambodia in the form of government aid, the people of Japan, and companies. More than this, is the help in training teachers,” said H.E Dr Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport.

Recently, eight school buildings funded by Japan have ben inaugurated in Phnom Penh. (Read more)
