Construction projects increase by 55% in 2019

4,446 projects construction projects were approved in 2019, a 55% increase compared to 2018, while investment totalled US$9.3 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 78%.

The annual report from the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction showed that construction projects nationwide were built over 18.5 million square metres, a 62% increase compared to 2018 when construction covered a total land area of 11.4 million square metres.

In 2019, there were 436 projects of buildings from 5 floors up. Of those, 203 buildings were located in Preah Sihanoukville province.

The report pointed out that there are 23 buildings with 32 floors up and skyscrapers, and 13 buildings which have from 40 floors up.

Of the construction projects, residential construction in 2019 saw 3,732 projects with an investment amount of US$3 billion.

66 hotel construction projects were approved and 312 commercial constructions with investment amounts of US$586 million and US$3.5 billion respectively.

The report stated that 121 factory constructions were approved with an investment amount of US$1.1 billion.

From 2000 to 2019, the ministry issued 48,004 construction permits nationwide representing investment of US$51 billion.

In 2018, there were 2,867 construction projects representing an investment amount of US$ 5.2 billion.
