Draft Automotive & Electronics Sectors Roadmap Completed, Under Discussion with Stakeholders

The drafts of the automotive and electronics sectors roadmaps have been completed and are under discussion and review by supporting stakeholders and investors.

The draft roadmaps were discussed on 1 March among eight ministries/agencies, with support from the UK government’s Accelerated COVID-19 Economic Support (ACES) programme in partnership with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to seek their views and feedback.

Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) HE Sok Chenda Sophea said that after gathering all inputs and comments from investors and the industry experts, the roadmaps will be submitted to the Committee on Economic and Financial Policy, before final endorsement.

The automotive and electronics sectors have been identified as priority sectors to develop for Cambodia’s economic recovery from COVID-19 and longer-term economic growth, modernisation and diversification, in line with Cambodia’s Industrial Development Policy 2015 – 2025 and the recently released Economic Recovery Plan 2021-2023.

The successful implementation of the sector roadmaps could generate a significant impact for Cambodia. Taken together, the two sectors could see an uplift in exports of over US$2 billion and the creation of over 22,000 new jobs over the next 5 years, as well as increased opportunities for local small and medium enterprises in these sectors.

The UK is proud to support the development of these sector roadmaps, said UK Ambassador to Cambodia HE Tina Redshaw.
