EDI Port Project Set to Finish by 2021

The project for the Electronic Data Interchange(EDI) system for ports in Cambodia is set to be operational by 2021, according to Dr Masahiko Furuichi from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) mission team.

In a meeting with Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) H.E. Sun Chanthol on 27 August, Dr Masahiko Furuichi said that the Japan-funded port EDI project worth US$14 million is set to be operational by April 2021.

Dr Masahiko also added that the final report of the study for the port EDI project will soon be concluded with the inputs of MPWT, JICA and relevant stakeholders.

The EDI project for ports is a tool used to efficiently manage information on import and export operations which simplifies and speeds up port procedures. However, the specific location to install the EDI system remains unclear. However, H.E VasimSorya, a spokesman from MPWT, said the EDI project might start with the Sihanoukville autonomous port.

To ensure that the project remains on schedule, H.E. Sun Chanthol requested the JICA team to coordinate their work with MPWT’s Department of Information Technology and Public Relations for further input.
