9k Cambodian Tourist Influx Signals Promising Summer for Phu Quoc Island

In a testament to the growing allure of Phu Quoc Island, located off Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam, approximately 9,000 Cambodian tourists have flocked to its shores within the first five months of this year.

This surge in Cambodian visitors highlights the potential of the Cambodian market for the island’s tourism industry, as reported by the Vietnamese newspaper Tuoitrenews on May 31, 2023.

According to the Kien Giang Department of Tourism, the province has already welcomed more than 4.9 million visitors since the start of the year, including over 354,992 international travelers. Of particular significance is the notable increase in Cambodian tourists, reaching an estimated count of 9,145, demonstrating a significant upswing compared to previous years.

Recognizing the growing potential, Tran Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the Kien Giang Tourism Association, emphasized that Cambodia presents an exceptional international market for Phu Quoc Island this summer, with the number of visitors continuing to rise.

Vietnam aims to showcase the natural beauty, abundant resources, and vibrant local culture of Kien Giang’s Ha Tien and Phu Quoc Cities to the Cambodian people. Khanh emphasized the importance of close collaboration between tourism businesses to maximize the joint development of these locales.

“This is a golden opportunity for tourism businesses to be closely linked in order to boost joint development for tourism in the localities,” he said.

Lam Thi Diem Tram, Director of Dao Ngoc Tourist Tourism and Event company, shared insights into their efforts to tap into the Cambodian market, conducting workshops in Cambodia to attract more tourists. As a result, the island has been welcoming groups of 20-60 Cambodian tourists to Phu Quoc on a weekly basis.

The influx of Cambodian tourists serves as a promising indicator for Phu Quoc Island’s tourism industry, fostering growth, collaboration, and increased opportunities for both countries. The captivating beauty and diverse tourism offerings of Phu Quoc Island continue to entice visitors from neighboring Cambodia and beyond.
