Japan Provides Over US$200K to Build Bridge & Strengthen Chicken Production in Cambodia

The government of Japan has granted a total of US$209,197 for a bridge construction project and a project to strengthen the value chain of Khmer chicken production in Cambodia. The signing ceremony of the grant agreement between HE U Inu Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, and the representative of the recipient institution took place on 14 March 2023.

The Grants for Small-Scale Human Security Project will provide more than US$100,000 to the Department of Public Works and Transport of Kampong Thom province to build a new concrete bridge to replace the current decaying wooden bridge in Koul commune, Prasat Sambo district, Kampong Thom province. This project will benefit more than 13,000 local people by facilitating the transportation of agricultural products and the daily commute of students and people to schools, markets, and health centres.

Another US$108,803 has been allocated to the project to strengthen the value chain of Khmer chicken production in Kampong Chhnang, and Siem Reap provinces, which will install chicken breeding equipment and repair sheds for poultry farmers. The project will provide technical assistance from Heifer International Cambodia and the farming community in the areas of expertise and technical knowledge on safe and effective poultry farming, and sanitation practices to increase revenue.

Ambassador U Inu Atsushi said, “These two projects will greatly contribute to Cambodia’s economic and social development. Japan is committed to helping Cambodia achieve sustainable growth and improving the livelihoods of its people.”

In addition, Japan has recently provided a total of more than US$300,000 to three institutions to implement rural education and rehabilitation projects for the disabled in Cambodia. This funding is part of Japan’s ongoing support for Cambodia’s development. (Read more)
