Large Kampong Thom Cashew Processing Factory with Capacity of 1.5k tons Officially Inaugurated

The Cashew Nut and Shell Processing Plant in Kampong Thom Province, with an annual processing capacity of 1,500 tons, was officially inaugurated by HE Touch Bun Hour, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, and HE Atsushi Ueno, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia on 4 June 2024.

During the ceremony, HE Touch Bun Hour commended the establishment of the factory, highlighting it as a significant achievement born from robust public and private sector cooperation. The plant represents a milestone in Cambodia’s agricultural development, particularly in the cashew sector, which has seen a 132% increase in cultivation from 2018 to 2023, according to FAO data. In 2023, Cambodia exported approximately 620,000 tons of raw cashew nuts, ranking third globally.

Invested in by MIRARTH Green Tech with technical assistance from TOP Planning Japan and JICA, the factory is poised to enhance the export of processed cashews, adding value, creating jobs, and promoting economic diversification. This initiative aims to position Cambodia as a leading producer and supplier of cashews both domestically and internationally.

HE Touch Bun Hour emphasised that Cambodia has a wealth of potential crops, with cashews being a prime agro-industrial product for cultivation, processing, and export. The collaboration with Japan is expected to boost the country’s cashew industry significantly.
