ADB’s $2.4M Boost to House State-of-the-Art Chuon Nath Library, Largest in Cambodia

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated a generous sum of US$2.4 million for the construction of the Chuon Nath Library at the National Institute of Education. The groundbreaking ceremony, led by HE Dr Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, took place on 29 November 2023.

The initiative, a crucial component of the Secondary Education Development Project, aims to elevate the quality of secondary education in Cambodia. According to Khuon Vicheka, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, “The Chuon Nath Library is envisioned to become a cornerstone in advancing education at the secondary school level, being the sole institution dedicated to training higher-level teachers in the country.”

The six-storey library, funded by ADB, is poised to become a beacon of knowledge equipped with modern facilities and an extensive collection of domestic and international textbooks. Paving the way for a transformative educational experience, the Chuon Nath Library is set to be the largest of its kind in Cambodia.

Anticipated to be completed within 15 months, the project’s construction commenced on 29 November 2023, with an expected completion date in February 2025. This initiative not only underscores ADB’s commitment to educational development but also heralds a new era for Cambodia’s academic prowess.
