ALUMINIUM CHINA: The in-depth discussion on future of China’s recycled aluminium industry

Preparations for ALUMINIUM CHINA 2020 are underway. World-leading aluminium producers, such as Novelis, Nikkeikin, CHALCO, Nanshan, ALNAN, and Mingtai, are taking part as exhibitors with cutting-edge materials and their experience in the recycling sector. Meanwhile, leading aluminium recyclers Lizhong, Sigma and technology suppliers including Otto Junker, Bobby Bartz, Tomra are invited to share advanced aluminium recycling technologies. The event is scheduled to be held in Shanghai New International Expo Center from 8-10 July 2020.

Guests will gather at the “Future Aluminium Plant – China Aluminium Recycling Innovation and Development Conference” to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing China’s  aluminium recycling and reusing.

Former grade regeneration in aluminium alloy becomes the focus of the future; primary and secondary aluminium producers are closely collaborating to promote energy efficiency.

China is the world’s largest producer, consumer and exporter of aluminium, yet consumption of scrap aluminium by Chinese aluminium manufacturers remains low. Also, a substantial portion of what was once quality wrought aluminium alloy is now degraded scrap. Thus, the ongoing build-out of a quality closed-loop recycling system and advocation for former grade regeneration are crucial.

Domestic supply of recycled aluminium is expected to replace imports as demand grows, leading to the increasing need for recycling technology

Statistics from Antaike show that the share of imported aluminium scrap in raw material for secondary aluminium has decreased from 50% in 2010 to 18%, while domestic scrap increased from 28% to 55%.

Apart from policy constraints, the COVID-19 epidemic is predicted to further reduce aluminium scrap imports in 2020. Domestic supply may replace imports to become the primary source of aluminium scrap, leading to a demand in the increase of recycling technology.

“China’s recycling aluminium industry is going through a transformation. How we ensure the proper use of domestic aluminium scrap is a new challenge not only for aluminium recyclers but also the whole industry.” said Mr. Gu from Nanshan Group, an exhibitor at the upcoming ALUMINIUM CHINA 2020.
