Angkor Wat Ranked as #1 Landmark in the World by Tripadvisor

The renowned online worldwide travel planning company TripAdvisor recently announced the winners of its Travellers’ Choice Award for Landmarks in the World and Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia was ranked #1 for its magnificent historical architecture.

This is second consecutive year for Angkor Wat to receive this award and it will be officially conferred on the monument by TripAdvisor on 9 August in Siem Reap Province.

The enormous temple edged out many well-known world landmarks such as the Taj Mahal in India, the Eiffel Tower in France, Wat Pho in Thailand, and the Great Wall in China, which were ranked 6th, 14th, 17th and 18th respectively.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the award ceremony will contribute to showing off the image and prestige of Cambodia on the international stage and to attracting more tourists to the Angkor Archaeological Park.

In 2016, the temple was placed first among the 500 most fascinating tourist destinations around the world in Lonely Planet. In 2015 it won the #1 global must-see spot on Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel List. In 2014, Angkor Wat was also on the top list in an ArchaeoMadness competition organised by the Archaeological Institute of America to mark International Archaeology Day.
