Cambodia Surpasses Goal with Over 20 Million Seedlings Planted by 2024

As of 2024, Cambodia has successfully planted and replanted more than 20 million seedlings, according to the Forestry Administration. HE Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, announced during the Tree Day Ceremony on 9 July 2024 in Takeo Province that the Forestry Administration has planted over 20.50 million seedlings and continues to plant and distribute 500,000 seedlings annually through the state budget.

Additionally, millions of other saplings have been privately planted by citizens, excluding fruit trees and other industrial crops.

The Forestry Administration under the Ministry of Agriculture recently completed planting 16,500 seedlings on 10 hectares at the Sokrom Forest Extension and Rehabilitation Station in Samrong commune, Phnom district, Cardamom, Pursat province.

During the Tree Day celebration on 9 July 2024, 3,000 seedlings of thnong, rosewood, and peacock trees were planted on a 3-hectare plot at the Banteay Angkor Forest Rehabilitation Station in Khna village, Tram Kak district, Takeo province.

Furthermore, by 2024, the Plant Day Ceremony established a total of 475 hectares of plant gardens in 14 capitals and provinces. This event also initiated a forest-loving movement and resulted in the planting of numerous other trees throughout the country, covering over 80,000 hectares of plantations and many public or private parks in schools, pagodas, resorts, and private parks.
