Cambodia, and China sign an MoU to boost exports of three main products directly to China

Cambodia and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the direct export of three main products from Cambodia to China. The three major Cambodian associations – the Cambodian Cashew Association, the Cambodian Earwax Association, and the Cambodian Cassava Coalition – signed the MoU with the Chinese Customs Administration in Nanning, Guangxi Province, China.

This agreement aims to promote the direct export of Cambodian cashew nuts, cassava, and earwax to the Chinese market in a faster and smoother manner.

The Ministry of Information published this information on September 27, 2024. Mr. Suy Kok Thean, President of the Khmer Earwax Association, stated that China is the largest market for processed earwax nests. He expressed his expectation that this memorandum would lead to an increase in the price of earwax nests due to the ability to export them directly to China without the need to go through third countries. Currently, unprocessed earwax nests are mainly exported to Vietnam, Thailand, and some to China.

Uon Siloth, President of the Cambodian Cashew Association, mentioned that most of Cambodia’s cashew exports face complexities, as these products have to pass through third countries before reaching the Chinese market. Therefore, the signing of this memorandum will allow some of Cambodia’s agricultural products to be imported directly into Guangxi Province, China. This move is expected to benefit the farmers by enabling them to earn more.
