Cambodia Asks WB for Larger-Scale Financial Assistance in Infrastructure Development

The Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) has requested the World Bank to consider providing larger-scale financial assistance, known as advanced concessional loans, for Cambodia, in particular for nationwide infrastructure investment projects.

The remark was made by MEF Minister HE Aun Pornmoniroth in the virtual farewell meeting with the outgoing Vice President for East Asia and Pacific World Bank Victoria Kwakwa, held on Monday 13 September.

During the meeting, HE Aun Pornmoniroth requested that the World Bank should consider providing Cambodia with the more advanced concessional loans like other developing partners, according to the MEF press release.

He added that the World Bank might also consider postponing the implementation of new requirements needed to request loans for Cambodia. This will help Cambodia to easily access financial assistance for infrastructure development in the post-pandemic recovery period.

Ms Victoria Kwakwa accepted Cambodia’s request and said she will submit the proposal to World Bank’s management team for further consideration.
