Cambodia, Thailand to Temporarily Open New Stueng Bat-Ban Nong Ian Checkpoint Soon

Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to temporarily open the new Stung Bot- Ban Nong Ian border checkpoint soon connecting Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province to Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’ spokesman HE Vasim Sorya on 11 October, the plan to open this checkpoint is to boost trade between the two countries, through which only containers truck are to allowed through in the first stage.

“On our side, we are ready. At Stung Bot, we have already prepared an immigration office; and we already designated customs officers from the Poipet border gate to work at the site temporarily,” he said.

He added that other infrastructure such as parking lots, main checkpoint facilities, and accommodation of officials are still under construction.

However, HE Vasim Sorya did specify the exact date of the opening, but according to the Thai Ministry of Commerce the opening is expected to be soon

As of June this year, the construction of this US$24 million Stueng Bat-Ban Nong Ian international border checkpoint for the Cambodian side was over 21.05% complete. (Read more)
