Cambodia to Adapt Smart City Management Model from Singapore

An inter-ministerial team is currently studying the smart city management model from Singapore and will soon adapt the system to fit the Cambodian social context.

In the meantime, the government has also already drafted plans to transform several key cities into smart cities, aiming at establishing an inclusive ASEAN smart cities network.

The plan was revealed during an online conference on “Planning for Smart Cities” on 12 July.

Attended by over 200 provincial governors and relevant officers, the conference was organised by the Royal School of Administration in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Service, the Civil Service College of Singapore, and the Temasek International Foundation.

Minister of Public Service HE Prum Sokha said during the meeting that learning from developed countries such as Singapore was a good starting point to collect inputs. However, the smart city model will be adapted to the context of Cambodian society.

“The term smart city is not just about digital advancement, but means a liveable city,” he added.

Thus far, the government has selected some provinces as potential targets for smart city projects including Sihanoukville and Siem Reap. (Read more and more)
