Cambodian Cultural Village in Siem Reap to Shut Down Next Month

The Cambodian Cultural Village Resort will completely shut down in early November following months due to no tourists following the COVID-19 pandemic.

A statement issued on 11 October by the management team said that due to the spread of COVID-19 in recent months, the number of visitors has dropped dramatically and posed severe economic and financial threats to the company.

Therefore, the company will completely close its business from 07 November 2020 onwards. Additionally, the company will terminate the contract with all employees and pay compensation as in accordance with the Cambodian Labour Law.

In August, RFI reported the employees were protesting demanding that employers to address on three problems, including negotiating a joint convention with the union, demanding a monthly food allowance of US$25, and requesting the 20% deducted salary back.

Later, on 22 September, the governor of Siem Reap also issued a letter to help resolve the dispute.
