Cambodian Government Approves 21 New Standards to Enhance Industrial Competitiveness

In a significant move to bolster industrial growth, the Cambodian government has approved 21 new international standards aimed at enhancing the country’s competitiveness. This decision was announced during the 31st meeting of the National Standards Council, led by H.E. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, on September 3, 2025.

The newly approved standards encompass a range of areas, including chemical substances and products, energy management systems, electrical and electronic products, automotive parts, cosmetics, bamboo furniture, and textiles. These standards, which include ISO, IEC, and ISO/IEC classifications, are expected to lay a strong foundation for Cambodia’s manufacturing capabilities.

H.E. Hem Vandy emphasized the importance of these standards, stating, “These standards are crucial for advancing and strengthening Cambodia’s manufacturing sovereignty. They reflect our national unity and the commitment to support local production.” He further noted that adherence to these standards would enable Cambodian businesses to integrate into both domestic and global supply chains while ensuring public health, consumer safety, and overall industrial competitiveness.

In addition to the approval of the new standards, the National Standards Council has also established three national committees tasked with coordinating and promoting Cambodia’s participation in international standardization efforts under the auspices of organizations such as ISO, IEC, and Codex. This initiative aligns with Cambodia’s goal to become a full member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and an associate member of the IEC by 2026.

The implementation of these standards represents a pivotal step forward for Cambodia, poised to enhance its industrial landscape and boost economic development in the years to come.
