Cambodia’s Marble Sector Contributes Nearly $40 Million to State Revenue Over Three Years

Minister Keo Rattanak highlights the growing economic impact of the stone industry during the inaugural Cambodia Marble Association assembly

Cambodia’s marble and ornamental stone industry has emerged as a significant contributor to the national treasury, generating nearly $40 million in royalties and export duties over the last three years. This figure was revealed by His Excellency Keo Rattanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, during the first General Assembly to elect the Board of Directors for the Cambodia Marble Association on February 2, 2026.

The Minister specified that these revenues—which exclude standard internal taxes—were collected from more than 40 active companies holding a total of over 60 licenses across the country. Under current regulations, mining firms are required to pay royalties as a form of natural resource tax, alongside specific duties on products exported to international markets.

In his address, H.E. Keo Rattanak emphasized that the sector’s value extends far beyond direct revenue. The growth of domestic marble production plays a vital role in: 1. Job Creation: Providing stable employment opportunities for local communities in mining regions. 2. Economic Diversification: Strengthening Cambodia’s industrial base and reducing reliance on traditional sectors. 3. Import Substitution: Decreasing the need for expensive imported stone by providing high-quality domestic alternatives for the booming construction industry.

The establishment of the Cambodia Marble Association marks a new chapter for the industry, aimed at professionalizing the sector and ensuring sustainable mining practices. The Minister encouraged the newly elected board to foster cooperation between the private sector and the government to enhance the prestige of Cambodian marble on the global stage, ensuring that the nation’s natural resources continue to drive long-term economic prosperity and social development.
