Cambodia’s Rice Exports Surge, Raking in Nearly USD 350 Million in 8 Months

In an impressive display of agricultural prowess, Cambodia has earned approximately USD 348.18 million from the export of nearly 473,000 tons of rice in the first eight months of 2025. This significant achievement was reported by the Cambodian Rice Federation on August 10, 2025.

From January to August, 51 rice exporting companies facilitated the shipment of 472,803 tons of rice to 66 different destinations worldwide. Among these, 26 European countries received a total of 22,691 tons, generating USD 176.33 million in revenue. China and Hong Kong also emerged as key markets, importing 116,320 tons valued at USD 68.86 million.

Additionally, the ASEAN region accounted for 62,158 tons of rice exports, amounting to USD 43.50 million, while other nations, including those in Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, imported 67,411 tons, contributing USD 59.48 million to Cambodia’s exports.

The types of rice exported predominantly consisted of fragrant rice, which made up 87% of the total exports, followed by long-grain white rice at 9.72%, whole grain rice at 1%, organic rice at 1.83%, and other varieties at 0.45%. In a notable addition, Cambodia also exported 4,848,835 tons of wet rice, bringing an estimated USD 1,114.25 million into the economy.

The Cambodian rice sector remains a vital component of the country’s food security strategy and economic development. In 2024, the sector generated nearly USD 2 billion, underscoring its critical role in supporting both livelihoods and national growth.

As Cambodia continues to strengthen its position in the global rice market, the future looks promising for this key agricultural sector.
