CBRE Cambodia Sheds Light on the Office of the Future: Where Work, Lifestyle & ESG Converge

CBRE Cambodia, a leading player in the real estate arena, recently orchestrated an exclusive event christened “Unveiling the Office of the 21st Century: Shaping the Future of Work, Lifestyle, and ESG” at ATOM in Phnom Penh on 2 November 2023. This event had an overarching mission—to spotlight the rapidly transforming landscape of contemporary workplaces, with a keen emphasis on the dynamic interplay between the future of professional workspaces, lifestyle considerations, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors.

The event featured presentations and panel discussions with industry experts and visionaries who engaged with diverse facets of this evolving workspace ecosystem.

Explosive Growth in Office Space: Lawrence Lennon, Managing Director of CBRE Cambodia, illuminated the remarkable expansion witnessed in the Cambodian office market. “The office market here has seen an astounding evolution, skyrocketing from 500,000 sqm in 2019 to an impressive 1 million sqm of available space today. Parallel to many domestic sectors, we have catapulted through developmental phases and embraced forward-looking, flexible, and notably sustainable structures of the future,” remarked Lennon.

Lennon delved further into the multifaceted nature of contemporary offices. He affirmed, “Offices of the 21st Century serve as an amalgamation of lifestyle, technology, and collaborative domains. They are more than just work-centric spaces; they function as essential tools for recruitment, retention, and the pursuit of ambitious environmental objectives.”

Insights from Industry Leaders from the Panel Discussions: Several panellists contributed their insights into the future of work and office environments in Cambodia. Chea Ty, Head of Sales at ULS, explained that, “To attract an influx of international companies, we must adhere to global benchmarks, emphasising sustainability, ESG principles, AI technology integration, and future-proofing. This, indeed, epitomises the office of the 21st Century in Cambodia, aligning with the aspirations of the new generation of Cambodians.”

Hun Chansan, Principal of Re: Edge Architecture, encapsulated the discourse on design principles, underscoring, “Designing an office space equates to designing the synergy between people, the economy, and their surrounding environment. When individuals form an affinity with their workspace, performance excels. Such spaces should epitomise convenience while remaining socially and environmentally responsible.”
