China Opens Huge Commercial Market for Construction Industry

Huge Chinese-owned commercial market opens in Kandal Province bringing hopes for Cambodia construction industry.

On June 21, a furniture manufacturer Chengdu Bayi Furniture Group based in Sichuan Province had officially opened its depot, the ‘Chengdu Bayi Cambodia-China Commercial Market’ located along National Road No.4 in Roka commune, AngkSnuol District, Kandal Province.

Comprising of entertainment center, logistics center, market, flats and villas, the commercial market will target wholesale of furniture, steel, and construction materials.

Speaking during the grand opening, Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak, highlights the country’s economic growth and the demand for luxurious equipment and furniture for the construction industry, which is now growing rapidly. In addition, the arrival of Chinese commercial market provides more choices for Cambodian people who wish to live in civilized life in line with the economic development.

According to Zhang Ying, deputy director of the Business Hall in Sichuan Province, trade between Cambodia and Sichuan reached USD110 million last year. Raw material such as electronics, spare parts, sound systems, were the main products Sichuan imported to Cambodia.

To promote trade between the two countries, the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and Chengdu Bayi Furniture Group have agreed to let Cambodian manufacturers showcase their products and find a partnership with Chinese companies.

Bilateral trade between the two countries had reached USD5.8 billion in 2017 which Cambodia export USD1 billion to China and USD4.7 vice versa.
