China Sends Second Batch of TCM Experts to Cambodia, Strengthening Healthcare Collaboration

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, welcomed the arrival of the second batch of highly skilled Chinese medical teams specializing in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on Tuesday evening. With a dual mission in mind, this team aims not only to provide routine medical treatments but also to bolster the establishment of the China-Cambodia Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, a national-level initiative, according to the publication of Ecns on July 5, 2023.

The handover of responsibilities took place between the heads of the first and second Chinese medical teams supporting Cambodia’s fight against the pandemic. Captain Fan Maorong and Deputy Captain Zhang Yanhong, who remained in the country, passed on their duties to the new team.

Comprised of eight experts from Beijing’s Guang’anmen Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, the second batch possesses specialized knowledge in internal medicine, acupuncture, and orthopedics. Their expertise will contribute significantly to advancing healthcare capabilities in Cambodia.

China’s commitment to supporting Cambodia during the COVID-19 crisis began on March 16, 2022, when the initial team of TCM experts was dispatched. As of May 17, this team transitioned into a Chinese medical team dedicated to providing ongoing medical assistance to Cambodia. This notable effort marks the first national-level Chinese medical team sent abroad by China to combat the pandemic.

Throughout their mission, the Chinese medical team has administered traditional Chinese medicine treatments to local individuals, organized free treatment sessions, conducted health education initiatives, hosted the Cambodia-China-Vietnam International Traditional Chinese Medicine Forum, and delivered professional training to local medical professionals. Their unwavering dedication and expertise have garnered recognition, with Cambodia recently bestowing “Knight Class” medals upon these esteemed Chinese medicine specialists in recognition of their invaluable contributions to fighting COVID-19 and other diseases.

China’s continuous support, exemplified by the dispatch of successive medical teams, showcases the strength of collaboration between the two nations in the realm of healthcare. This initiative not only reinforces the longstanding cultural ties between China and Cambodia but also fosters knowledge exchange and advancements in traditional Chinese medicine practices.
