Construction Firms Urged With Register

Robust growth over recent years has seen the construction industry become one of the pillars of the Cambodian economy with more than 1,000 companies operating in the sector. To ensure legal compliance as well as guaranteeing construction quality and standards, the Ministry of Land and Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLUPC) has urged all construction firms to register their operations with the MLMUPC.

Speaking at the Cambuild’17 expo opening event last week on Diamond Island, H.E. Phoeung Sophorn, Secretary of State at the MLMUPC said 1,016 construction firms have registered to do business in the kingdom, 311 of which are international companies.

The ministry also warned those who fail to register with the ministry saying that, “Without registration, they [construction firms] will be facing the Cambodia construction law, or their firms will be shut down.”

“Pavilion developers from China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Thailand have invested in big projects and modern buildings comprising condominiums, office space, and shopping malls,” explained the Secretary of State adding that, “those developers feel confident in the Cambodian market”.

Construction investment surged in the first half of 2017 with a 22.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Between January and June 2017, the ministry approved 1,523 projects covering about 7.2 million square metres of landmass estimated to worth almost USD5 billion.
