Construction Projects in Cambodia Increase by 22 Percent in 2017

3,052 construction projects were recorded in Cambodia in 2017 representing an increase of 22.31 percent year on year from 2016, according to the annual report by the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC).

In 2017, construction projects were listed as being underway on a total area of more than 10 million square metres with the estimated investment value of around USD6 billion. This is quite a significant increase if compared to the 2016 figures of 2,405 projects with an investment value of about USD5 billion.

Among the 2017 projects, 2,291 are residential projects on a total construction area of about 5 million square metres and worth approximately USD2 billion. Moreover, 188 of the projects are considered tall buildings of at least 5-storeys and up.

Between the years 2000 and 2017, Cambodia has a total of 39,903 construction projects nationwide that have been worth more than USD37 billion.

For the last two decades, the majority of investments have been made by Cambodians. Chinese top the list of foreign investors with the total of 121 projects worth about USD2 billion. Korean investors are second, followed by Japanese, Singaporean, and Thais, according to a survey by Key Real Estate Co., Ltd.
