Dauntri Reservoir Dam Nears Completion with 91% Progress, Set to Open by October 2025

The Dauntri Reservoir Dam project in Battambang province has reached an impressive 91% completion, marking a crucial milestone in its mission to revolutionize water supply and agricultural productivity in the province.

This landmark project, designed to enhance irrigation and flood management, is expected to be fully operational by October 2025. The announcement was made during a progress review meeting led by HE Chuon Bitthol, Undersecretary of State, on 27 December 2024.

Currently, the dam stands at a height of 81.5 meters above sea level, progressing steadily toward its target height of 96 meters. Funded by the Republic of Korea, this infrastructure project reflects a strong international partnership dedicated to bolstering Cambodia’s agricultural and water management systems.

HE Chuon Bitthol emphasized the need for strict adherence to construction quality, urging collaboration among the technical team, the construction firm, and the independent inspection team from Korea to ensure the project’s success.

Once completed, the Dauntri Dam will significantly impact the local agricultural landscape. The dam is designed to provide critical irrigation support, benefiting approximately 33,000 hectares of farmland during the rainy season and an additional 4,500 hectares in the dry season. Beyond agriculture, the dam will supply clean water to surrounding communities and reduce flooding risks in vulnerable areas, making it a vital resource for both economic development and disaster mitigation.

The project began on 25 June 2018 and represents a significant step forward in Battambang’s development. Its completion is highly anticipated by farmers and residents who stand to gain from improved water access and agricultural productivity. The reservoir is also expected to play a key role in enhancing food security and supporting sustainable livelihoods across the province. (Read more)
