FDI in Cambodia Surges to US$45 Billion in Q1 2023

In an impressive display of investor confidence, Cambodia’s foreign direct investment (FDI) has soared to over US$45.8 billion in the first quarter of 2023. According to a report from the National Bank of Cambodia, the country has witnessed a steady inflow of capital from major sources including China, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

China emerges as the leading investor, contributing a remarkable 83.5 trillion riels (approximately US$20.59 billion) to Cambodia’s FDI landscape. This significant influx of funds reflects the country’s robust economic growth and its increasing prominence on the global investment map.

The report further highlights the diverse sectors attracting FDI inflows, encompassing finance, manufacturing, real estate, hotels and resorts, agriculture, hydropower, and construction.

Notably, the real estate sector has received substantial investment, totaling approximately 21.5 trillion riels, while the construction sector follows closely with 9.8 trillion riels.

This surge in FDI is a testament to Cambodia’s attractive business environment, stable economic policies, and strategic location within the region. As the country continues to foster a favorable investment climate, it positions itself as a prime destination for international investors seeking opportunities for growth and diversification.
