Floods Damage More Than 90 Roads Nationwide

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, as of 15 October, at least 90 roads or over 200 sections nationwide have been affected by floods. In the meantime, the ministry is temporarily fixing some sections and will re-evaluate some others after the waters recede.

These damaged roads are at least 300 kilometres long in total, including National Roads 2, 3, 4, 5, 20, 20A, 21, 21A, and 21B, among others across every province.

“The number we have in hand is just a technical document. In fact, each provincial administration is still making more reports and solving problems directly,” said Ministry of Public Works and Transport spokesman Heang Sotheayuth.

“For some sections, the damage is fixable. For some roads, the sections are totally torn down by the rain, that is why we continue shutting down the traffic if necessary,” added.

In response, all relevant ministries are actively working by dividing the work into three major steps including preventing the damage, temporarily fixing the damaged section, and re-evaluating once again after the water recedes.
