Government Studies Constructing Us$64 Million Water Treatment System in Takhmao

In response to the rising demand for water consumption and the increase in investment, the government is studying a plan to construct a water treatment system in Takhmao with a capacity to filter more than 7,000 cubic metres of water per day, according to the results of the site inspection of the project on 12 June 2019.

Through the inspection, led by H.E Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), this project will include a water treatment plant with a capacity to filter 7,600 cubic metres of water per day, a pumping station, sewerage network, and also a restoration of the riverbank in Takhmao, Kandal province.

According to a ministry Facebook’s post, the project is potentially being funded under a US$64 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of Korea to maintain the welfare of the people, a good environment, flood prevention, and to attract tourists as well as national and international investors.

H.E Vasim Sorya, spokesman for MPWT, told Construction & Property Magazine by telephone that the a feasibility study is still underway for the project, saying that for now he does not have the details of the project in hand just yet.

“What was reviewed yesterday is actually not clear just yet, because this [project] is to be studied first, maybe it is the national annual project,” he said in response to being asked when the construction can begin for the project.

He added that the government is also studying obtaining a loan from the Korean government for the project.
