Government to expand NR1 from Phnom Penh to Neak Loeung

Some sections of National Road 1 from Phnom Penh to Neak Loeung will be expanded to reduce traffic congestion and accidents, according to the Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E Sun Chanthol.

During the press conference on “Progress and Continuing Direction of Ministry of Public Works and Transport on 21 February, H.E. Chanthol stated that National Road 1 is divided into two sections, with the first from Phnom Penh Neak Leung, and the other from Neak Leung to Bavet.

“We will not expand the section from Neak Loeung to Bavet, but we might upgrade from DBST to AC. However, the Phnom Penh to Neak Loeung section will be expanded because some roads are too narrow, which creates congestion, especially with the trucks transporting products from the port,” said H.E. Sun Chanthol.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has been cooperating with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on this project.
