Gov’t Locks Down 8 Provinces, Implements Nationwide Curfew, & Suspends Risky Business to Prevent Delta Variant Spread

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen last night issued a new order to all provinces to implement stricter measures as Cambodia is vulnerable to large-scale infection of the Delta variant.

The new measures will be implemented from the night of July 29 to August 12, which include:

-Imposing a curfew from 9 pm to 3 am for Phnom Penh and all provinces, with some exceptions

-Locking down 8 provinces bordering Thailand that have a high risk of spreading the Delta variant, including Koh Kong, Pursat, Battambang, Pailin, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear.

-Suspending high-risk work and business activities such as KTV, nightclubs, beer gardens, bars, cinemas, museums, sports clubs, fitness centres, and gatherings of more than 10 people.

The order has also given powers to the provincial authorities to take safety measures accordingly.

To date, Cambodia has 75,152 COVID-19 cases with the death toll has risen to 1,339.
