Gov’t Revokes Siem Reap’s Chong Kneas Tourism Port Investment Project Over Tax Dispute

The government has decided to cancel and revoke Siem Reap’s Chong Kneas tourism port investment project by Su Jing Investment Company for tax and regulation violations.

According to a letter from the Office of the Council of Ministers to the Ministry of Economy and Finance released published on 29 July, the port is located in Sangkat Chong Kneas in Siem Reap city and will now be under the temporary administration of the Siem Reap provincial hall and administration and the Angkor Enterprise.

All assets and infrastructure on the investment site are also seized as state property.

The government will also set up an inter-ministerial commission chaired by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and joined by relevant government bodies to deal with compensation and the company’s tax liabilities.

The Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Administration Mr Sok Thol has confirmed that the reason for the project cancellation is due to the failure of the company to properly comply with tax and other regulations set by the government.

As of 11 August, the provincial administration has yet to take any action.
