Hong Kong & Macau Plan Electric Motorcycle Assembly Plant in Cambodia, Boosting Green Transport Future

Investors from Hong Kong and Macau, China, have announced plans to establish an electric motorcycle assembly plant in Cambodia, a move poised to accelerate the country’s transition to eco-friendly transportation.

The ambitious project was unveiled during a meeting on 13 December 2024 between HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, and Mr. Wang Jiawei, CEO of Glorank (HK).

Mr. Wang underscored the strategic potential of Cambodia as a destination for sustainable investments in electric motorcycles and battery production. Our visit signifies the growing confidence in Cambodia’s investment climate,” he stated, expressing gratitude for the detailed insights provided by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), which he believes will be instrumental in guiding their investment strategy.

Secretary General Chea Vuthy commended the initiative, noting its alignment with Cambodia’s economic goals and environmental priorities. “This project complies with our national laws and regulations, making it a win-win for our economy and the planet,” he remarked.

The assembly plant is expected to invigorate Cambodia’s motorcycle market by addressing the rising demand for sustainable transportation options while positioning the country as a key player in the electric vehicle industry.

The CDC also encouraged investors to explore the development of special economic zones dedicated to electric vehicle production, aiming to create strategic industrial clusters that support innovation and efficiency. These zones could further strengthen Cambodia’s infrastructure for sustainable industries and attract more international investments.

As the discussions concluded, both parties expressed optimism about the prospects of fostering a robust electric vehicle sector in Cambodia. The proposed assembly plant represents an economic opportunity and a critical step towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable growth in the region.
