Cambodia-China Bilateral Trade Surges to US$10bn, 4.6% Up, in First 10 Months of 2023

Cambodia’s trade with China flourished in the first 10 months of 2023, with bilateral trade volume reaching an impressive US$10 billion, marking a notable 4.6% increase compared to the previous year. This announcement was made by National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sodary during a productive working meeting with HE Zhang Qingli, Vice Chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Economic and Social Council of the People’s Republic of China, held on 23 April 2024, at the National Assembly building.

In addition to acknowledging the positive growth in bilateral trade, Samdech Khuon Sodary urged China to further stimulate investment and tourism from Chinese investors and visitors to Cambodia. She extended invitations for Chinese participation in the upcoming 12th ICAPP General Assembly and the 11th International Parliamentary Assembly for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), scheduled to be hosted by Cambodia in November 2024.

In the first two months of 2024, Cambodia’s trade volume with major countries surged, exceeding US$8 billion, marking a substantial growth of nearly 20% compared to the corresponding period in 2023. (Read more)

Furthermore, for the six-month term spanning from September 2023 to February 2024, under the new government’s stewardship, Cambodia’s exports witnessed remarkable growth, amounting to US$11.8 billion. This figure represents an impressive increase of 16.57% compared to the preceding period, affirming the nation’s sustained economic momentum and its proactive engagement in international commerce.
