Japan Invests Over USD 240,000 in Cambodia’s Clean Water Initiative

In a significant step towards enhancing access to clean water in Cambodia, the Japanese government has allocated over USD 240,000 for the development of a water supply system in Kampong Khleang commune, located in Siem Reap province. This funding is part of the Kusanone Grant Agreement, aimed at supporting Small-Scale Human Security Projects.

The Cambodia Rural Water Association will utilise this assistance to implement water supply systems in two villages within Kampong Khleang. The official signing ceremony took place on 21 February 2025, with HE Uino Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, in attendance.

Ambassador Uino highlighted the project’s importance, noting that it will benefit approximately 2,300 residents by providing access to affordable clean water and adequate sanitation. He expressed his optimism that these improvements would significantly enhance the living standards of the local community.

Since 1991, Japan has been committed to facilitating small-scale human security projects in Cambodia through Kusanone assistance, directly supporting local authorities and NGOs in a variety of social development initiatives. Over the past three decades, the Embassy of Japan has positively impacted the region by contributing to nearly 700 projects.

This recent funding underscores Japan’s ongoing commitment to promoting Cambodia’s social and economic development, reflecting the strong partnership between the two nations.
