Japan to Provide US$13.9 million Grant Aid to Upgrade Sihanoukville Deep Seaport

The Japanese government will provide some US$13.9 million in grant aid to Cambodia, contributing to the development of the Sihanoukville deep seaport.

The agreement of the grant aid will be signed on 16 December by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia HE Mikami Masahiro, according to the ministry’s press release issued on Wednesday.

Under the Economic and Social Development Project, the grant will be used to equip a mobile harbour crane at the port.

The aid will mainly contribute to the government’s efforts in accelerating economic and social development as well as further strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the ministry said in the statement.

Besides, the Japanese government through JICA Cambodia on Tuesday just provided US$12.2 million assistance on installing port electronic data interchange (Port EDI) at the two ports –Phnom Penh Autonomous Port and Preah Sihanouk Autonomous Port. (Read more)

The hand-over ceremony was held under the presence of HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Work and Transport and JICA representatives.
