Land Management Ministry strengthens implementation of Construction Law

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction has asked the authorities in the construction sector and ministry officials in provincial departments to implement the new construction law by prohibiting unauthorised construction, while strengthening the issuance of construction permits and inspecting construction sites to ensure the safety and security of construction sites.

In a directive on Strengthening the Construction Quality and Safety signed by H.E. Chea Sophara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction dated 10 January, the Ministry issued several bans on constructions.

According to the statement, these prohibitions are mostly focused on constructing and repairing which do not have licenses or certificates issued by the ministry.

Notably, the ministry prohibits living inside buildings which are under construction, even on a temporary basis.

Additionally, to ensure the safety and security of construction sites, the ministry has urged authorities to implement the policies and measures on issuing permits on building, repairing or removing.

Issuing of construction permits, construction work permits, and construction inspections and closure of construction permits should be strengthened, the ministry said, since all of these require licenses or certificates issued the ministry.
