Large-Scale Fishery Research Centre in Steung Treng Set for Completion in October

The construction of a large-scale fish hatchery research and production centre in Stung Treng province is scheduled for completion in October, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries HE Veng Sakhon on Wednesday 09 June.

Being built on over 10 hectares of land, the project is located in Ba Deum village, Sam Khuy commune in Sesan district. This research centre is a part of the Mekong-Integrated Water Resources Management Phase 3 funded by the World Bank of approximately US$1.7 million.

The large-scale project consists of a 2,040 cubic metre main pond, 12 baby fish ponds, 4 meat fish ponds, 6 sub fish ponds, a canal system, and a wastewater treatment station.

The project will also include a laboratory, research centre, training lab, and library.

HE Veng Sakhon said that despite the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team is still working actively to ensure that the project goes ahead as scheduled.

“This project is a large-scale infrastructure, designed and equipped with modern technology for better operation. Once completed, we hope that the centre will help boost the potential of the fishing sector in Cambodia to another level,” said HE Veng Sakhon.
