Mine Exploration License Opens for Public Bidding

Ministry of Mines and Energy announced it opens for application for public bidding on the mine exploration licenses in eight areas.

According to announcement dated on January 10, the eight areas cover cumulatively 1,390 square km in provinces of Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Kompong Thom, Siem Reap, and Mondulkiri.

The ministry stated local and international companies shall apply for the mine exploration from the date of announcement till February 15, 2020. The result of companies to be awarded licenses will be announced publicly after procedures have been taken completely.

H.E. Yos Monirath, Director General of Mines at Ministry of Mines and Energy said the public bidding for mine exploration license have been held.

As of present, about 30 companies, majority of it are foreign companies, have been awarded the mine exploration licenses to conducting exploration for mine in the country.

A few of them have found potential from their mine exploration activities, he said.

“Opening public bidding for mine exploration licenses is focused on all kind of metal-related mine sources and so far some license-awarded companies have shown their potential result of exploring,” H.E. Yos Monirath said.

The Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia), a subsidiary of Emerald Resources NL, received an Industrial Mining License in 2018 and is scheduled to start mining gold in Mondulkiri province’s Keo Seima district soon.
