Ministry of Interior Orders Relevant Authorities to Solve Land Disputes Transparently

The Ministry of Interior has requested relevant authorities to address all types of land disputes nationwide in a transparent and effective manner, especially for local and indigenous peoples.

The ministry gave the order during the 14th National Conference on Land and Natural Resources Governance with 53 partnered NGO partners on Tuesday 17 November.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior HE Ngy Chanphal said that all relevant authorities must strengthen the implementation of laws and regulations, and all land issues must take into account the livelihoods of the people.

Executive Director of the NGO Forum on Cambodia (NGOF) Tek Vannara added that this conference mainly discussed solutions to current land issues, especially in indigenous communities.

Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen also previously ordered that authorities should solve disputes using extrajudicial procedures.

“If possible, land disputes should be resolved outside the court system. If going to the court, there must be losers and winners. However, with the extrajudicial method, the dispute can be resolved in a win-win manner, but the officials must be transparent,” said PM Hun Sen. (Read more)
