Ministry Urges Shipping Agencies to Apply for License by July

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has announced that all shipping agency companies have to apply for ship agent licenses by no later than 29 July 2022, before the port Electronic Data Interchange (Port EDI) system is officially launched.

The ministry said in a statement dated 28 September 2021 on the procedure for licensing shipping agencies that after the announcement on the licensing procedures on the shipping agencies has to come into force, some shipping agents have not yet applied for permits to become legitimate shipping agencies.

The ministry asked all ship agency companies to apply for ship agency licenses by 29 July 2022. In the case of any shipping agency that has not applied for a permit, the company will not have the right to obtain user accounts in the Port EDI to use for the preparation of ship entry and exit ports.

The ministry hopes that all shipping agencies are aware of the information and will comply with it.

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard electronic format between business partners.

Currently, all inbound and outbound navigation procedures are time-consuming, difficult, and complicated. Once the Port EDI system operates functionally, it will make the process easier, save time, efficient and transparent. (Read more)
