More Land Encroachment Found in Mondulkiri, Governor Warns of Severe Legal Action

The Mondulkiri Provincial Administration has discovered more land encroachment activities along the Cambodia-Vietnam border and warned it will crack down on those encroachers without exception.

Mondulkiri Governor Svay Sam Eang said during the borderline inspection on 27 March that the officials have found some people encroaching on state land in Phnom Nam Lyr Wildlife Sanctuary.

“We have been working with the Ministry of Environment seizing those lands back. We have also warned people not to encroach on more land, otherwise, they will face legal action,” said HE Sam Eang.

Recently, the Mondulkiri Administration has also seized over 472 hectares of illegally occupied land in Orang district and returned it to the original owners. (Read more)

Mondulkiri province is known as the province of land disputes. According to the data released by the provincial governor last year, the Mondulkiri provincial authorities have thus far revoked ownership titles and seized back over 2,000 hectares of illegally-occupied land, emphasising that the law is applied equally regardless of social ranking.
