More Luxury Accommodation Needed for Sihanoukville Province

The supply of luxury accommodation in Sihanoukville is not enough to service the increasing numbers of tourists visiting the province.

On 22 September, 2018, Director of Sihanoukville’s Tourism Department Mr Taing Sochet Krisna said that the supply of luxury accommodation, such as five-star hotels,is not enough forthe rapidly increasing numbers of national and international tourists visiting the province.

Therefore, Mr Taing Sochet Krisna urged for more investment in luxury accommodation in the province.

According to him, Sihanoukville has attracted around 100,000 tourists in the first half of 2018, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year. In recent years, the percentage increase in tourist number in Sihanoukville Province has been an average of 10% each year, he added.

In addition to the demand for more accommodation, more restaurants and hospitality are also needed for the province.

Meanwhile, according to the figure by the Ministry of Tourism released in early September 2018, Sihanoukville has 69 hotels, equivalent to more than 4,000 rooms, of which 1,000 are luxury room.

MrTaing Sochet Krisna’s speech was made during the grand opening of the Prince Times Hotel five-star hotel in Sihanoukville, developed by Prince Real Estate.
