Po Leaf Project Inaugurated at Buddhist Cultural Centre with US$5.5 Million Investment

The Buddhist Cultural Centre has officially inaugurated 38 construction projects shaped like po leaves, with a total investment exceeding US$5.5 million. The ceremony, presided over by PM Samdech Hun Manet, took place on 30 May 2024.

The key elements of this monumental project include a 9-storey Cholamoni stupa, four large stupas, eight small stupas symbolising enlightenment, wisdom, and harmony, and 84,000 Buddhist stupas encircling the Vipassana monument. These constructions underscore the centre’s commitment to Buddhist education and tourism in Cambodia.

The three major achievements inaugurated, costing over US$5.5 million, are:

  1. The Great Temple of the First Stupa: Measuring 108m x 27m x 58.50m, this temple features 1,170 inscriptions on the Trinity and was constructed from 26 June 2015 to 3 March 2023, with a budget of US$4,657,500.
  2. Concrete Roads: Nine roads spanning 3,150m in length and 6m in width, constructed at a total cost of US$757,662.
  3. The Vipassana Monument: A 500-square-metre meditation area featuring 50 Khmer-style Vipassana, with a total budget of US$96,252.

Samdech PM highlighted the centre’s location in Preah Suramarit Kosomak Kirirom National Park, describing it as an attractive Buddhist monument and eco-tourism resort. The centre aims to draw national and international tourists while serving as a hub for Buddhist education in Cambodia. It also plans to offer shelter and education to children and youth, particularly those from remote areas.

Located in Thmey village, Chambok commune, Phnom Sruoch district, Kampong Speu province, the Buddhist Cultural Centre provides an ideal environment for monks and Buddhists to live, practice, meditate, and educate. This environment significantly contributes to the enhancement of physical and mental health, fostering a supportive community for spiritual growth and learning.
