Major Wastewater Treatment Project to Begin on 30 Hectares in Takhmao City

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has announced an ambitious plan to construct a comprehensive wastewater treatment system over a 30-hectare site in Prek They village, Roka Khpos commune, Takhmao city, Kandal province. The project, which received formal approval during a meeting on 29 October 2024, will be managed under the guidance of HE Ros Vanna, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Project Director, alongside HE Kouch Chamroeun, Governor of Kandal Province, as reported on 29 October 2024.

The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between stakeholders and local authorities to ensure efficient project initiation and long-term operations for the treatment system. The ministry’s project is anticipated to boost local infrastructure, effectively manage wastewater, and reduce environmental impacts, marking a significant step forward for Kandal province’s urban development.

Focused on sustainable development, this large-scale wastewater system marks the first phase of a broader infrastructure project. It includes establishing a sewage network, rainwater drainage, and small and large sewage pumping stations. The project benefits from significant financial backing from the Fund for Economic Development Cooperation of the Import-Export Bank of the Republic of Korea, and the Joint Venture of KUMHO-TECHCROSS will handle the development. The formal agreement for the venture was signed on 29 August 2024, establishing a roadmap for construction in Takhmao City.
