Grand Inauguration of Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University’s Magnificent New Building Valued at Nearly US$2 Million

Amidst great fanfare, the remarkable nine-story structure of Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University has been unveiled, standing as a testament to architectural excellence and educational advancement. This majestic edifice, with an estimated value of almost US$2 million, proudly graces the grounds of Wat Svay Pophe, located in the esteemed Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.

Under the esteemed patronage of Samdech Hun Sen, the prestigious inauguration ceremony took place on 30th May 2023, signifying a momentous milestone in Cambodia’s educational landscape.

Affectionately known as the “Samdech Preah Moha Sangkhareach Bour Kri Building,” this splendid addition to Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University was made possible through the unwavering support and generous sponsorship of Samdech Hun Sen, alongside Samdech Kittipritthbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, the esteemed President of the Cambodian Red Cross, and other philanthropic individuals and families.

The newly unveiled structure encompasses an array of impressive facilities, including state-of-the-art classrooms, well-appointed offices, the esteemed Techo Santepheap Library, a dedicated courtroom for law students, and a versatile meeting hall. Comprising a total of nine floors, equivalent to an impressive 45 rooms, construction on this architectural marvel commenced on 4th July 2022.

Noteworthy is the harmonious fusion of contemporary Khmer-style architectural elements showcased throughout this exceptional building. Drawing inspiration from revered Khmer architectural styles, including traditional architecture, Khmer ancient houses, iconic Buddhist temples such as Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei, and Bakong, as well as the heritage structures harkening back to the era of colonization and modernization, this masterpiece symbolizes the cultural legacy of Cambodia.

The grand inauguration of the Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University’s new building marks a moment of pride and celebration, highlighting the nation’s commitment to fostering education, cultural preservation, and architectural brilliance.
